How to Organise a Birthday Brunch in Brighton (Without Chasing Your Friends for Money)

Friends at a birthday table cheering during a Qwerky drag brunch

Organising a birthday for a group of friends is fun right up until you're chasing ten people for money on WhatsApp. This guide shows you how to plan a birthday brunch in Brighton step by step, from choosing the date to making sure nobody leaves you out of pocket.

Why a drag brunch works so well for birthdays

A birthday dinner can be a bit flat if half the table doesn't know each other. At a drag brunch, the queens do the hard work. There's live performance, singalongs and games, and they love a birthday shout-out. Everyone has something to talk about and the birthday person gets their moment in the spotlight.

It also keeps the planning simple. Food, 90 minutes of bottomless drinks and a 2.5 hour show are all included in one ticket. You don't have to book a restaurant, a bar and entertainment separately.

Step 1: Pick your date early

Qwerky brunches run every Saturday at 2pm and 5pm at Legends Brighton on the seafront. Each sitting has a limited number of places, and popular Saturdays can sell out.

Our tip: send your group two or three possible dates, agree on one within a few days, then book it. Booking 3 or more weeks ahead also unlocks the "split it with friends" option (more on that below).

Step 2: Choose your packages

Every ticket includes the same show, food and 90 minutes of bottomless drinks. The packages only differ by drinks:

  • Silver, £42.50: house cocktails
  • Gold, £52.50: house cocktails and house spirits
  • Platinum, £57.50: house cocktails and Prosecco
  • Ultimate, £69.50: all of the above, plus 2 premium cocktails each

Prices are per person, plus a small booking fee that's shown before you pay. You don't all need the same package. You can mix them in one order, and everyone is seated together.

Step 3: Stop being the bank

This is the bit organisers love. When you book for 4 or more people at least 3 weeks ahead, you can choose "Split it with friends" at checkout. Here's how it works:

  • You pay for your own place, plus a £10 deposit for each friend's place. That holds the whole table.
  • You get one link to share in your group chat. Your friends don't need an account.
  • Each friend picks their own package, adds their food choice and any allergies, and pays their share online. They each get their own ticket.
  • You can see who has paid on your group page, and we send you reminders before the deadline.

Friends need to pay by 14 days before the brunch. If anyone hasn't paid by then, their place is charged to the organiser's card at the Silver price, and the ticket comes to you. You agree to this when you book, so there are no surprises. It means the table is never left half-empty, and you're never chasing anyone for money.

Step 4: Big group? Talk to us

You can book up to 30 places online in one go. For bigger groups, private hire or anything special, send us a group enquiry. Tell us the occasion, your date and how many are coming. We'll check availability, recommend a package and reply within one working day.

Step 5: Sort the details

  • Dietary needs: we have vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options. Allergen information for every dish and drink is on our menu page. Let us know about allergies as early as you can.
  • Dress up: sashes, crowns, badges and matching outfits are very welcome. Just keep it suitable for a public venue.
  • Arrive on time: the bottomless drinks run for 90 minutes and don't get longer if your group is late. Agree a meeting point nearby and walk in together.
  • Over 18s only: it's a grown-up show with cheeky humour, so it's perfect for 18th, 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th and beyond.

The birthday organiser's checklist

  • Agree a date with the group
  • Book online and choose "Split it with friends" if you're booking for 4 or more people at least 3 weeks ahead
  • Share your group link in the group chat
  • Check who has paid on your group page
  • Email us any allergies or special requests
  • Plan your outfits
  • Turn up on time and enjoy it, because it's sorted

Can't decide what to get them?

If the birthday person loves a party, a Qwerky gift voucher makes a great present. Choose £25, £50, £100 or any amount you like. You can print it yourself or have it emailed to them on the day you choose, and it lasts 12 months.
